I love Christmas. staying home this year has made me love it even more. but it has also made it a little more chaotic and stressful for me. it is the first time in our marriage we have stayed home and celebrated by ourselves. and this is the first year we have had an advent calendar. never had one growing up. and I have never been a fan of the nasty, waxy chocolate calendars or the felt tree with ornaments. but when I saw this one I decided to give it a try. I painted different sized boxes and used the numbers I had from last years advent calendar that I never completed. It worked out perfectly. I display it on my entertainment center as part of my holiday decor. Jack loves the idea and has as hard time understanding that we only open one box a day. Inside I have placed his favorite candy (starbursts) and an activity (i.e. decorate the tree, visit the snow, make snowflakes, go see the lights, make holiday goodies). When we get down to the 12 days before Christmas, I have placed a scripture telling of Christ-to help us put Christ back in Christmas (found here).
day 1: visit santa...or attempted to
Santa was busy @ the North Pole until 5 pm and we didn't feel like killing 3 hours @ Bass Pro Shop. Instead, we watched them clean the fish tank and lost Jack

day 2: decorate the tree
Jack loved decorating the tree and asks to do it everyday. maybe next year I will do a little tree for the kids to decorate (and a nativity that is kid friendly. looking for this book). Kate loves to sit and stare at the lights.

day 3: set up the nativity and tell the Christmas story

day 4: write letter to Santa
all he wants are trucks: tow truck, garbage truck and monster trucks...and of course everything else he sees.

day 5: make cookies with mom

My mom collects nativities and has at least 50 of them, that we were NOT allowed to touch (even though we did). I don't have a nice nativity, but some day I hope to and so I bought the little people nativity. That's one that the kids can play with and I don't worry about it at all, plus it's pretty cute.

LOVE your advent calendar. maybe next year for me.

M sings "rock a bye baby" to baby Jesus, and tucks baby Jesus into bed--M's bed. Your calendar is very cute, btw.

Laughed out loud when I read your comments. Yes, being induced 2 weeks early would be a dream. I could only imagine what some woman would pay in cold cash to be induced that early. I'm having a
C-section.
I have a Fontanini that I let my daughter play with. It's pretty sturdy. I also have a Little People nativity that ALL the kids adore. Check them out if you haven't found one yet.

Wow... that's the most adorable advent calendar I've ever seen! So cute! We moved over by Boca Park off of Charleston. We love it over here! I'm going to have to make one of those cute calendars for next year... love it!
