opening day

some rambling tho'ts about an all American past time

we eat, breathe and dream baseball at this house. it consumes my husband's every tho't from April to October. I am a fan, mainly b/c we are doing something together (and b/c I love tiger's blood snowcones...and an occasional ballpark frank...could use a few less innings). hot summer evenings spent at the baseball field is where you can usually find us. even Jack enjoys a game or 2 (until the mascot appears and then it is game over). can't wait to take Kate to her first game this summer. hope she's not a crier like her brother.

I was not a good softball player in my youth. My hand/eye coordination is/was really bad. I got more fat lips and black eyes than base hits. Aaron, on the other hand, is very talented. he has played as a young boy all the way up through college. Papa boys are bread to play baseball. This is apparent in Jack. the kid is a natural and has hit many balls over the fence. he LOVES to play ball with his dad and can't wait for him to come home in the evenings. I am excited to see Jack in uniform and cheer him on. maybe this summer if I can find a 3 y/o league.

baseball reminds me of my youth and dad...summer evenings spent running around the fields at church ball games. I love the smell of his mitt and the softness of the leather from use over many, many years. the photos are of Aaron's old glove. the very same glove I was wearing when I lost my wedding ring (ring #1). We had only been married a few months when I lost it. I was playing baseball at Aaron's office party. when I took the glove off my hand, my ring came with it. I didn't realize it was gone until a few hours later. we were in a large, grassy park in Provo and I tho't the ring was gone for good. but, my diligent and thorough BIL found it among the blades of grass. forever grateful.

I spent the last 4 days up in Utah with my girlfriends. no diapers, bottles or snotty noses. lots of shopping, laughter, eating out, staying up late and sleeping in. pure bliss. grateful the husband let me enjoy some time away. didn't even complain he was home with 2 sick babies (both got ear infections while I was away). it snowed everyday while in UT. I returned down south to cold temps and rain. yuk. doesn't much feel like the start of baseball season. hope this isn't an indication of how the season will go for SF (Aaron's team). go Giants!

Aaron won't be adding to his collection of autographed baseballs this year. boys spring training trip was cancelled...too close to the birth of our 2 new nephews (congrats Brigitte/Evan and Holly/Jared!). Aaron's not too sad about it. instead, he will be going to SD in a few weeks to enjoy some guy time with friends from work...sea kayaking, fishing, and a Giants baseball game. pretty good trade if you ask me.

who is your favorite baseball team?
and is it baseball glove or baseball mitt?

How funny... I am on my 4th wedding ring! :) Upgraded the first one... second one I loved then my finger suddenly flipped out and decided it was allergic to white gold so I had it remade with the same main stone into something similar to yours... a princess cut in a wide titanim band that was tension set. Then a year ago Halloween I was painting Taylor's nails when I looked down, saw my band but NO diamond! It had popped out at some point during the day... so I searched high and low at my sons pre-school where I volunteered that day, Jasons Deli, the list goes on. It was gone... thank goodness for insurance! So I am now on my 4th ring which I love the mostest... a princess cut on the simple band waiting to get the matching bands on either side. :)

Back to baseball... one of my hubbies friends plays for the Giants, Aaron Rowand. Nice guy! We were at his house for Super Bowl last year and will probably see him this next weekend I believe. I think they are playing the Dodgers so we will probably go to that game because my husbands other buddy is Reed Johnson who now plays for Dodgers (last year was with the Cubs, that was amazing to go see him at Wrigley Field)! Then we can see both guys in one trip.

Anyway, still SO excited to get to use the headbands.... wahoo! :)

It's a glove for all but the catcher, then it's a mitt. I loved baseball games, especially after growing up going to Mariners games. The smell of nachos, and hot dogs and the sound of a train whistle in the middle of the game, oh yeah!

I call it a glove. My husband loves the A's but I don't so much care about baseball. He just used his Christmas money to purchase the MLB package that will download all of the A's games to your computer. So it's going to be a baseball season for us, though it's probably my least favorite sport to watch on TV. Live is fun, but TV? Bo-ring.

emily-totally agree with you about live vs. TV. I hate watching it on TV--something about all the chatter, cheering, etc gets on my last nerve (only thing worse is Nascar on TV). but I love going to a game and sitting in the stands.

melissa-my husband would die to know a Giant player personally. good luck to you!

National youth sports or nysonline.org does t-ball starting at age 3. Sadly you just missed Spring t-ball, but I know they have a summer session too!
